Located within the shimmering waters of the Andaman Sea and accessible via an international airport that directly services flights from most Asian and European countries, Phuket is a natural choice for destination weddings or personal celebrations. The city’s laidback atmosphere also makes it an ideal locale for team-building seminars and incentive trips.
Three conveniently located IHG properties on the island – Holiday Inn Mai Khao Beach Resort, Holiday Inn Phuket Resort and Holiday Inn Express Phuket Patong – provide faultless services and premium facilities catering to every MICE requirement.
Our Way of Saying
Things to do in Phuket
Steeped in art and culture, and blessed with abundant natural beauty, Phuket never runs out of diverting options and attractions for the bleisure traveller. The island’s top selling points include pristine, white-sand beaches, water sports and recreational activities, an engaging nightlife and various heritage sites.
Phuket Town is a testament to the island’s historical soul. Wander down streets displaying Sino-Portuguese architecture, chill in an artsy coffee shop, visit eccentric galleries and tiptoe about serene Chinese-Taoist shrines.
Patong Beach is the centre of all nightlife in Phuket, filled with fun bars, raucous pubs and lively clubs. Some pubs offer bar sports, from the ridiculous (banging a nail into a log with a hammer), to the usual (pool or darts), to the sedate (backgammon).
This long, gently curving shoreline is a popular spot for picnicking in the shade of casuarina trees. There are sports such as kitesurfing and lots of stalls offering snacks, drinks and massages.
Visit Phuket Town’s Chao Fah Variety Market and Phuket Square for souvenirs, handicrafts, accessories, inexpensive clothing and trinkets. Patong Beach Road and Bangla Road are also good for bargain-hunting, especially in the evenings. Small markets throughout the island sell local produce, chilli pastes and spices.
Simon Cabaret (www.phuket-simoncabaret.com) is a professionally staged show featuring katooey or ladyboy performers – all extremely talented and beautiful. The aim here is fun and entertainment through song and dance of the lip-synching variety. Extravagant costumes and intricate sets take the show to another level.
The largest and most well-known of Phuket’s temples (www.wat-chalong-phuket.com) is especially revered because it houses a splinter of bone believed to be from Buddha himself. Admire intricate architecture and religious statues covered in gold leaf. The peace and calm is occasionally disturbed by the lighting of firecrackers, a gesture of gratitude for answered prayers.
